What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing technique that is safe and effective to improve the appearance of aged skin, fine lines, color and skin texture. It leaves the skin radiant, smooth and hydrated.

What happens during a treatment?
Your first discussion with the esthetician should clearly set out your expectations and what he/she thinks will happen to your skin as a result of microdermabrasion. The skin is usually cleansed and dried well prior to the treatment. The esthetician then passes a wand filled with crystals over the skin, in a smooth stroking method. The wand dispenses the tiny crystals onto the skin to aid in the exfoliation process, while at the same time, being "vacuumed" away, along with the loosened skin particles. All the waste goes into a separate, closed container to make sure that there is no risk of contamination from dead skin products. The crystals are never reused.
How long is a treatment?
During the process of microdermabrasion, several passes may be done over the face in one session. However, during the first session the esthetician may only decide to make on pass just to see how the skin handles the treatment. For thicker skin or skin with many acne scars, you may need two or three passes on the skin per session. A treatment like this may take up to an hour. For thinner skin or skin that is sensitive, you will probably need only one pass per treatment. This will usually take half an hour to forty five minutes.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments needed all depends on the type of skin, and type of results you are looking to achieve. Although you may see results after you fist treatment, three to ten treatments are recommended to see significant improvements.
Are there any side effects to microdermabrasion?
Most people can return to work immediately after a treatment. Directly after a treatment the skin may feel sensitive and may be slightly red. This usually subsides within one to two hours, but may stay longer in certain individuals.
What should be done after a treatment?
Immediately following the treatment the esthetician should apply a sensitive moisturizer, or sunscreen. you should not exfoliate the treatment a few days following the procedure, and you should avoid any tanning for seven to ten days. Excessive perspiration may also irritate the treated area.
